Rachel Hayward

I’m Rachel, and I live in Burton with James and my 6 year old crazy (read: spoilt!) working cocker spaniel Cooper.

After working for many years in the voluntary and community sector in Derby and Birmingham, I’m now a self employed Bid Writer (writing application forms for funding, tenders and contracts).

I spent nearly 10 years working at Community Action Derby (where I worked with Simon, funnily enough) and I am an Associate Lecturer in the Business School at the University of Derby.

My passions are helping people finding their talents, making the most of opportunities and to navigate a very confusing landscape, whether that’s funding or business advice, or how to network and find that dream job.

I tend to live life at a million miles an hour, which can be stressful at times, so I relax through theatre (amateur and professional), good food with James and my wonderful family and friends, long walks with Cooper, travelling and finally I sing with a great local community choir - Crescendo - in Derby.

When the opportunity arose to join the team at Annabel's Angels I knew I had to apply. I’ve seen the charity grow from the very beginning, and know that cancer does not discriminate, and has touched my life in various ways over the years.

Crescendo raised some much needed funds for Annabel's Angels in 2015, so I knew the difference every penny makes and how hard Trustees work to ensure the money goes to people in need. I am determined to find ways to increase these donations, recognising how challenging it is for small local charities to raise awareness and funds.

I am so excited to be part of the team and to talk to more businesses about how they can be involved in a very unique and special Derby charity!
